Even more of a puzzle than Miriam, mainly because nobody knows where he came from or much of anything else about him. He’s been unwilling to share any of his past with his new friends/roommates Miriam and Sherry. Miriam didn’t take long to accept this; Sherry was a little more reticient, but eventually trusted him enough to leave him in charge of her bar temporarily. Doesn’t drink, but accepted the bartending job mostly due to Miriam’s prodding. He’s quiet, thoughtful, polite, health-conscious; the opposite of Miriam in many ways. He seems fond of Miriam, although his reactions to most of what she does range from bemused to disapproving. His interest in her seems decidedly platonic, perhaps even parental. John has a way of winning people over, even while they remain uncertain of his motivations. Shows no indication of a desire to take advantage of this.
